USCIS Photo Filing Requirements
When submitting immigration benefit petitions to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) — including Form I-485 (Adjustment of Status), Form I-90 (Renew/Replace Permanent Resident Card), Form I-765 (Employment Authorization / EAD), and Form N-400 (Naturalization) — applicants must submit physical or digital 2×2 inch passport-style photographs.
USCIS requires two identical color photographs taken within 30 days of filing your application. The photos must have a white or off-white background and follow standard U.S. passport biometric dimensions.

Writing on the Back of USCIS Photos
To prevent your photos from being misplaced in the USCIS service center mailroom:
- Lightly write your full name and A-Number (Alien Registration Number) if you have one, on the back of each photo.
- Use a soft pencil or felt-tip pen so the ink does not bleed through or dent the front surface of the photo.
- Place the two photographs in a small clear plastic bag or secure them with a paperclip to the front of your petition package.
